Route 7 Motor Vehicle Accident

Wednesday, May 30, 2012   On Wednesday May 30th, 2012 the Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department along with units rom the RFD responded to a motor vehicle extrication on Route 7 in Ridgefield.  The crash occured north of the Route 7 and Branchville Road intersection.  After a lengthy extrication the patient was safely removed and transported to Danbury Hospital by a Ridgefield Ambulance.  

Units operating on scene were Rescue 7 and Car 4 from the RVFD, along with Engine 1, Engine 2, Medic, 1, and Car 1.    

   


 

General Alarm Structure Fire at Golf Art

Wednesday, December 28, 2011  On December 28th shortly after 5:00 am a general alarm was sounded for a structure fire at Golf art on Ethan Allen Highway.  The fire was located in the store, and was quickly taken under control.  The fire was declared knocked down at approximately 5:30.  After extensive overhaul units cleared the scene at approximately 7:00 am. 

Units operating on scene were Car 3, Engine 3, Rescue 7, Tanker 12, and Tanker 10, along with Car 1, Car 2, Engine 1, amd Engine 2. 

   


 

Structure Fire on Silver Spring

Monday, December 19, 2011  A structure fire was reported at 10:10 am on Monday December 19th.  Units on scene included Engine 3, Rescue 7, Tanker 12, and Tanker 10.  The fire was under control at 10:30.  Fire caused damage to multiple rooms on the first and second story of the structure

   


 

RVFD Assists in Missing Person Search

Sunday, December 18, 2011  The Ridgefield Volunteeer Fire Department assisted the Ridgefield Police Department and other members of the Ridgefield Fire Department in a search for a missing women on December 18th.  The search was also assisted by surrounding area K-9 units as well as the state police K-9. 

The missing person returned home safe the next morning. 

   


 

General Alarm Structure Fire

Sunday, November 6, 2011  The Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department responded to a general alarm structure fire on Route 7 on Thursday November 3rd.  Rescue 7, Engine 3, Tanker 12, Tanker 10, Car 3, Car 4, and fire police units responded.  The fire was quickly taken under control, and was held to one part of the wall of the structure.  The Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

   


 

Winter Storm 10/29-10/31

Sunday, November 6, 2011  The Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department had a few very busy days when a rare October snow storm hit Ridgefield.  Starting at around 1:00 pm Saturday, the department ran numerous calls throughout the night and for the days to come. 

Volunteers staffed Rescue 7, Engine 3, Tanker 12, and Car 4 for the duration of the storm.  The storm knocked out power to 100 percent of the town.  Final number for calls during the storm is still being tallied. 

   


 

Ridgefield honors 10th anniversary of September 11th

Thursday, September 8, 2011  The Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department will be participating in a memorial of the tragic events of September 11th, 2001.  The ceremony will take place at the site of the memorial that will be revield located at the Parks and Recreation center in Ridgefield.

The fire departments honor guard will be present at the ceremony.

The department hopes for a good turn out and looks forward to paying tribute to those lost in the events of that day.

Members also took part in a event in Georgetown that morning. Truck 8 was used, along with Georgetown FD's ladder truck, to hoist a flag over route 53 in Redding. This was to honor a group of motorcyclist who were riding to honor the events that occurred ten years ago. Photos courtesy of Craig Dibble.

Sunday, August 28, 2011  The Ridgefield Volunteer Fire Department had a busy sunday responding to a variety of calls related to the hurricane that struck town. Hurricane Irene caused wide spread damage throughout town.

High winds and strong winds toppled many trees throughout town leading to downed power lines, and striking houses. There were two small electrical fires during the storm that were taken care of prior to growing to structure fires.

DUring the storm as many as 40 volunteer firefighters and many fire police were standing by to answer the calls. Firefighters staffed Engine 3, Rescue 7, Tanker 12, Car 3, and Car 4 for the extent of the storm starting at 8pm saturday evening.

   


 

Venting Drill

Tuesday, August 2, 2011  The RVFD had a hands on ventilation drill on August 2nd.  Using a roof simulator borrowed from the Trumbull FD, the members were able to practice laddering and cutting skills in a low risk environment.
